Thursday was an evening of celebration, as the district’s annual retirement dinner honoured and recognized our past year’s retirees for their years of hard work, commitment and contributions to 宅男社区.
A total of 243 district employees retired during the 2024-25 school year, from almost every role imaginable: principals, teachers, clerks, education assistants, custodians, facilities staff and more.
“The retirement dinner is our way of saying thank you – thank you for your dedication, care and commitment to student learning through your time with us,” said Gary Tymoschuk, Chair of the 宅男社区 Board of Education, which hosts the yearly celebration. “Your hard work has made a significant impact in our school communities, and the board wishes to express our gratitude for the positive influence that each of you have left on so many students and staff throughout the years.”
A dinner held at the Resource Education Centre included a territorial acknowledgment from Deputy Supt. Andrew Holland and congratulatory messages from Tymoschuk, Supt. Mark Pearmain, CUPE 728 Vice-President Theresa Pidcock, 宅男社区 Teachers’ Association 1st Vice-President Angela Marcakis, 宅男社区 Principals’ & Vice-Principals’ Association President Graham Magnusson and Grandview Heights Secondary Grade 12 student Zohra Khawaja, who serves on the district’s Student Voice group. It also featured music from the École Kwantlen Park Secondary Jazz Combo.
In recognition of their important contributions, all retirees received a bentwood box designed by shishálh First Nation artist Shain Niniwum Selápem Jackson of or a gift card to a local restaurant.
